Credentials

SCME's design engineer, Steve Cormack, has worked passionately as a professional engineer for the last 22 years, with 20 of those years being in product development.

Steve is degree qualified from The University of Auckland – Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) class of 2001.

Steve has worked with PTC CAD products since 1999, principally the flagship Creo (formerly known as Pro/ENGINEER). He is also very experienced with structural and moulding FEM analysis, combining the simulation results with deep (and wide) real-world experience of complex parts. People tell him he has a good eye for aesthetics, and a keen understanding of ‘brand’ as expressed through the look and feel of products.

Steve has engineered more than 35 significant products, with some notable highlights listed below.

  • Principal mechanical product development engineer on the Gallagher TW series weigh scales, winner of gold at the 2017 DINZ Best Awards and also the supreme ‘best of the best’ purple pin at the 2017 DINZ Best Awards. Plus a number of international design awards including 2x Good Design awards and a Red Dot award.
  • Principal mechanical product development engineer on the Gallagher T20, winner of silver in the product category of the 2014 Plastics New Zealand awards and winner of bronze at the 2014 DINZ Best Awards.
  • Principal mechanical product development engineer on the Gallagher Smart Reader HR4, winner of gold at the 2013 DINZ Best Awards.
  • Principal/sole mechanical product development engineer on the Gallagher Smart Reader HR3, winner of gold at the 2008 Plastics New Zealand Industry Design Awards and silver at the DINZ Best Awards.

Steve was invited by the Designers Institute of New Zealand to be a judge for the 2020 Best Awards, in the Product Design discipline.
